How To Make Beeswax Wraps?

Beeswax wraps can be used as a reusable alternative to plastic wrap or foil. They are biodegradable and compostable and can be used to wrap a variety of foods, including sandwiches, fruits, vegetables, and more. When you are finished using the wrap, simply wash it with cold water and mild soap, and let it air dry. Beeswax wraps will last for several months with proper care and can be refreshed with additional coats of beeswax as needed.

To make a beeswax wrap, you will need the following materials:

  • 100% cotton fabric (preferably organic)
  • Grated beeswax (you can purchase this or make your own by melting down a block of beeswax)
  • A paintbrush or foam brush
  • Parchment paper or a silicone baking mat
  • Scissors
  • An iron
  • Optional: pine resin, jojoba oil, or essential oils (for added flexibility and scent)

Here are the steps to make a beeswax wrap:

  • Cut your fabric into the desired size and shape. You can use a variety of sizes to wrap different types and sizes of food.
  • Lay your fabric on a piece of parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.
  • Using a paintbrush or foam brush, lightly coat the fabric with grated beeswax. You can also add a small amount of pine resin, jojoba oil, or essential oils at this point for added flexibility and scent.
  • Place the second piece of parchment paper or a silicone baking mat on top of the fabric.
  • Preheat your iron to the lowest setting (wool or silk).
  • Place the iron on top of the parchment paper and press down firmly. Move the iron in a circular motion to evenly distribute the heat and melt the beeswax into the fabric.
  • Allow the wrap to cool for a few minutes, then carefully peel it off the parchment paper.

Your beeswax wrap is now ready to use! To use it, simply wrap it around food or cover a bowl or dish. The heat of your hands will help to soften the wrap and create a seal.
